My independent coaching provides a safe space for personal growth, giving you time to think, define your role and leadership style, build confidence, address complex challenges, and develop effective strategies to move forward with a clearer sense of purpose and direction.

 

I provide advice and practical support for those who feel stuck and need to bring about change within themselves, their team, or their organization.

My role is to be a sounding board, to reflect what I hear – and when you need it, to act as an ally. Providing you with customized strategies and tools to find solutions to support whatever transition you are managing.

Case Study: Nick's coaching journey

Uncertainty about his leadership style, personal brand, and desire to take on more responsibility brought Nick to Ordinary Leadership for coaching.​

​At the time, Nick was in a director-level role at a global multinational fast-moving consumer goods manufacturer. He was just below the C-suite, the company’s upper level of senior executives and managers. He had shown his leadership capabilities by successfully implementing a major IT project and other large-scale endeavors.​

But Nick felt stuck. He wanted a more senior, purpose-orientated role. He was unsure whether to leave the business to realize this ambition or try to progress in the company and how others perceived him.​

How Ordinary Leadership helped

Ben’s coaching helped Nick work through these challenges. Through their sessions, Nick better understood how he ‘shows up’ at work and how he approaches core leadership dilemmas like team alignment. Ben supported Nick to envisage what a more purpose-orientated career could look like, and the ways in which he could reposition himself to step into such a role. By listening to and reflecting back the emerging ideas issues Nick was facing, Ben supported Nick to explore these challenges with honesty and openness, and to challenge his thinking.

Ben helped Nick identify that his default approach to managing conflict was to build consensus and use humor to diffuse tension. Drawing on his extensive professional experience and grasp of conflict-resolution theory, Ben enabled Nick to understand the motivations behind this approach and how it can hinder effective team and organizational working. Ben gave Nick some practical ways to recognize when this default behavior surfaces. Together, they co-created different ways for Nick to manage conflict, aligned to his personality and ethos.

The impact

The coaching sessions have already made a significant difference to Nick’s life. “I reflected on the points we discussed in our session and have got a new role in my organization, which allows me to use my potential to do what genuinely is purposeful for me,” he says. “…[Ben] helped me think through what’s really important to me.”

Nick has now moved into a more senior role within his company – a role he has been able to shape and create. His ability to manage conflict more effectively and a stronger personal brand is also helping to position him as a potential candidate for the C-Suite in the next few years.
